Resources for Seniors
Below are resources and guidance for Texas seniors and their families including precautionary information and guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at Texas nursing homes.
Guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
In addition to the video above, the CDC has posted guidance for preventing the spread of COVID-19 in retirement communities and independent living facilities. They have guidance for residents, owners, operators, workers, administrators, volunteers, and visitors. Find that guidance here.
Guidance for Nursing Homes
According to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission(HHSC), "Until further notice, nursing facilities are encouraged to use alternate means of communication such as FaceTime, Skype, or other video or audio systems for residents to maintain contact with family and friends." Additionally, Texas HHS states, "Nursing facilities must also implement screening protocols for anyone entering their facility. They must screen staff, medical professionals, and other essential visitors for COVID-19 using guidelines issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Only under certain compassionate care situations, such as a resident’s end-of-life, can non-essential visitors be allowed in a nursing facility, and the facility must follow all CMS protocols."
